Every domain of life creates platforms for the integration of other aspects to be fulfilled; just like the health domain cannot be complete without the aspect of food and nutrition. As food and nutrition play a crucial role in health promotion and chronic diseases prevention; it’s the way to fuel, provide energy, replace and supply new nutrients every day to the body. Food and nutrition have always been a concept that brings individuals to the consciousness of the intake of balanced food nutrients in the body. Whereof, water, fats, proteins, carbohydrates, key vitamins and minerals are important components of nutrition to maintain good health.Â
Eating a balanced diet is essential and fundamental for living a good and sustainable life that is living a life of possibilities of having long life expectancy with much energy and super creativity. Therefore, a healthy diet includes natural foods consists of fruits and red, orange, or dark green vegetables, for elderly people dairy products should be of low-fat content and proteins can consist of eggs, beans legumes, poultry, lean meat. Should be noted that an unhealthy diet is the most important risk factor for developing non-communicable diseases. Also, some communities have experienced poor nutrition due to break out of war or natural disaster which render the communities helpless and has led to extreme poverty and children are always mostly the victim of malnutrition.
Notwithstanding, industrialization has eased and increased production capacity that is the use of machines and new technologies. As such has gradually shifted consumption patterning from natural bio-products to consumption of much-canned food, processed food (much sodium) which is noted to be dangerous for people with high blood pressure. The use of chemical fertilizers and phytosanitary products known as pesticides to cultivate vegetables, fruits and other food crops have a negative long and short impact on the health of humans.
At the United Nations level, ensuring healthy lives and promote well-being for all ages and to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture are cross-cutting issues in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development ( SDGs 3 and 2 respectively). The UN recognizes the need for empowerment, development and engagement of States, organizations, individuals, as a means to build a better world by taken actions to contribute to educating the society on having an understanding of good nutrition and paying attention to what to eat can help to maintain and improve good health. Also, check the nutritional status particularly of the most vulnerable children of age group between 0-11 years in order to avoid the nutritional problems and deficiencies such as reduced incidence of low academic performance, low physical capacity, and reduced catch-up growth or progression of stunting, anaemia, obesity, poor dental health, and common dietary deficiencies: iodine, vitamin A, calcium, if not this might need nutritional intervention for recovery.
More so empowered communities to engage in sustainable agriculture using green mature to cultivate food crops, feed well with a green product that is a natural product to nourish the body. Also, food industries have to go ‘Green’ that goes in for green production using green improved technologies to produce food products and supplements which has zero toxins to the body and nourishes the body with balanced nutrients that are original with the body state, so that man’s potentials are not altered.
More so, green production makes individuals in the community go in for green purchase (sustainable purchase) is an act of purchase taking into account four pillars of sustainable development, economic efficiency, social solidarity, intercultural responsibility, and environmental responsibility.
It is important to know that good nutrition is an essential part of good health, poor nutrition by itself is associated with infectious diseases which account for a large portion of the world’s disease burden. So the quality of food intake into the body builds the tissues and cells to gives sound mental and physical capacity for individuals to be more productive and stay healthy.
